Rachel Barber ‘Looking over my Life Book’ 1999

22.01.99

To Rachel,

Hello, so here you are looking back on your Teens Life. Well, I [will] tell you a bit about it now. Well, I’m going out with a beautiful Dancer called Manni Carrella. He’s Italian and has the most gorgeous personality anyone could ask for. I am a dancer … I think that it’s very good to go out with a dancer… because you understand each other a lot more … you (sic) can see that they only love you ... We have been going out for 8 months and there have been a few ups and downs but we always seemed to find our way back to each other … because I don’t know what I’d do without him and I thank God that he brought us together...

AN EXCERPT FROM AN INTERVIEW FOR THE MOVIE 'I AM YOU' AKA 'IN HER SKIN' WITH MANNI CARELLA, RACHEL'S BOYFRIEND, 2001

"Yep. It was weird, ... This was a little bit different....we felt...it was really strange because in my mind I knew it wasn’t going to last. …As soon as I met her, I knew from the first day that I saw her that we were going to be together. Know what I mean. It was very strange because she was the type of person where you just couldn't, you couldn't dislike her. You couldn't hate her, you couldn't be angry with her. She was such a beautiful person.

We all met up at Kylee’s house that morning and Rachel came in with her bag. Rachel took me out to the courtyard…I’ve got to give you something.” This huge purple thing with a pink ribbon on it and a card. She said “you’ve captured my heart.” she’s like, “this is my heart to you. I want you to treasure it for the rest of your life.”. “I want you to hold it. I want you to know that I’ll never leave you.” This is on the first of March. "That night the heart and card came out as I went through my bag and I freaked. I’m just like, 'Okay, she’s given me a heart this morning.' The card is like, has said everything she’s ever felt for me. Saying, 'Don’t ever lose faith in me. Don’t ever...' you know all this kind of stuff and I just thought that was strange. It was like her saying goodbye to me.'
